Personal profile

Dennis Holm is a Teaching Lecturer at the department of History and Social Science at the University of the Faroe Islands. He is a social scientist educated at Aalborg University in Denmark in 1998.

In the period from 1999 to 2005 he was a researcher at the Research Center for Local and Regional Development (later named the Research Center for Social Development) in the Faroe Islands, and from 2005 to 2012 director of the Research Center. The Research Center for Social Development became part of the University of the Faroe Islands in 2008.

From 2013 to 2020 he was the mayor of the municipality of Vágur, and from 2016 to 2020 also the chair of the association of Faroese municipalities, Kommunufelag Føroya. During this period he was on a leave from the Research Center for Social Development, but started as Teaching Lecturer at the Depart of History and Social Science in February 2021.

Research interests

Dennis Holm has publications within focus on remote and rural areas, community development and within fisheries, as well as numerous publications about different areas within the Faroese society. He has been part of a large numbers of research project within these areas and has also been projectleader of a number of projects.

Teaching

Dennis Holm has taught at all levels of undergraduate and postgraduate study in social science in courses including: sociology and social science, methodology and methods, globalisation and remote areas, and development in rural and remote areas.

He has supervised Bachelor and Master at the University of the Faroe Islands.
